This is a project assigned in Graphic design typography II, Fall 2024.
Book Title: The Great Deception Medium/Materials: 80lb paper, vellum sheets, scratch-off stickers, Reflective lamination sheets, Lenticular sheet, and PETG for the cover.
The Great Deception reinterprets The Great Gatsby by merging the novel’s script with contemporary American statistics, unraveling the myth of the American Dream. This interactive book employs layered materials—vellum sheets, lenticular elements, and reflective lamination—to convey themes of illusion and hidden truths.
Each design choice reflects the duality present in the narrative, encouraging readers to peel back physical layers as they confront the darker realities beneath the surface. This project exemplifies my approach to book design as an immersive and conceptual experience.
DETAILS
For this book, I designed textured reflective holographic vellum paper, achieved through a combination of holographic sticker material, vellum paper, and a scrunching technique to create a dynamic, light-catching effect.
This technique adds depth and dimension, transforming the traditionally flat surface of paper into a multi-layered, tactile experience that enhances the book’s overall texture and visual intrigue.
